Understanding Road Design and Its Relationship to Car Crashes

When drivers step into their vehicles, any fearful hesitation is usually about reckless or distracted drivers. Few realize that over half of fatal auto accidents each year can be directly attributed to bad highway design. When individuals are harmed because of these faulty designs, it's important to hold those truly responsible accountable.

Highway Designs That Can Kill

A variety of design flaws can result in serious accidents on the roads. The Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) is meant to minimize these design flaws, but it doesn't do much good when it's not followed. From inappropriately placed traffic signals to clearance lanes shorter than the required distance, seemingly minor design flaws can cause huge problems.

The MUTCD focuses on traffic control devices, but even highway design in general can prove dangerous. A lack of consideration for reduced friction in wet or icy conditions can cause repeated crashes in the same area. Even failing to consider acceleration around a curve when designing a road can leave local government liable for an accident.

Real Experience in Road Design Litigation

Not every legal professional is knowledgeable about liability related to road design, possibly leaving an accident victim with zero compensation if he sues the wrong party. Additionally, insurance companies could be on the hook for damages that are, in fact, caused by a state's negligent design standards.

As a licensed civil engineer in Alabama and Tennessee, I understand the Department of Transportation's design standards. With my experience as a road and highway designer, I'm uniquely qualified to take those truly accountable to task.

In any Tennessee courtroom, my knowledge of design flaws, the MUTCD and Department of Transportation regulations means dangerous, faulty highway design will not go unpunished.

Road Design Auto Accident Attorney

Many believe that at least one driver must be at fault in all auto accidents, but MUTCD violations or simple road design negligence can easily put non-negligent drivers in harm's way. In these cases, it's inappropriate to hold innocent drivers, or even their insurance companies, responsible.

If you've been injured or are facing litigation over an accident likely caused by negligent road or traffic control design, you need an attorney with the real-world experience to make those who are accountable own up to their negligence.
